How to measure the width of a gate between posts
In order to measure a gate width, you will need 3 measurements.
a – the width between the top of the posts/pillars
b – the width between the middle of the posts/pillars
c – the width between the bottom of the posts/pillars
It is best to get all 3 measurements a, b and c in mm (millimeters). The reason you need all 3 measurements is because to the eye your posts or pillars may look straight. However, after measuring you may find there is a difference in size between a, b and c. Your post may be slightly out.
Your should use the smallest measurement out of a, b and c as you can ‘pack’ the gate out – you can not ‘cut’ the gate to fit

How to measure the height for a gate between posts
To measure the gate height you will need measure from the floor to the just under the cap on your post or pillar.
If you have a sloped ground you have the following options:
- have a lightly bigger gap under one side of the gate to the other.
- have a customed gate build that has a sloped bottom.
- build up the ground to make it level
If you opt for option 1 – on the majority of drives you will never notice the gap difference between the bottom of the gate to the floor.
If you opt for option 2 – you will need a lot of specialist tools to get the correct measurements for the angles.
